Hoping for the Revival, Kenya Gave Pentecost Sunday Service

Nairobi Gratia church had the Pentecost Sunday Service on May 30. They were mediating the the book of Acts2:1-21 -how the amazing event happened when the Holy Spirit came down to the 120 saints in the upper room.

Pentecost is very important day in Christianity as Christmas and Easter.
In Jewish tradition, there were 3 festivals they celebrated in a year (Exo 23:14-17) and Pentecost was one of the three. People thanked God as they entered the Canaan land and gave their first fruits, so Pentecost is related to the harvest.
And they were also thanked God on this day for giving them the 10 commandments.
And Pentecost has the meaning of Jubilee, year of Liberty. In the year of Jubilee, everything return to the original status. So it is the year of recovery and freedom.

On this day, believers of Jesus received the Holy Spirit. It was the day of change and liberty. Like Jubilee, the people who were oppressed by the sins and darkness and punishment could be released. Pentecost has this meaning.
"What does this mean?" People from outside were perplexed and asked each other because the Christians were speaking in tongues and praising God in many languages. Gospel should be spreaded to all the languages, people as this day's happening. Disciples were very bold and revealed themselves to the public from this day.
Peter explained the meaning bringing the prophecy from Joel 2 - God will pour down His spirit to all the people in the world who call on the name of the Lord and there will be no discrimination! It is not the social equality in politics but in the salvation of God- all the people are at the same distance before God.

On this day-the day of liberty, 3000 people returned to God so the great expansion was happening. In the Christianity history, this day was the starting point of the church as it could be spreaded to many people in the world.

In Luke 4:16-19, After Jesus suffering from the fasting prayer, Jesus entered in the synagogue and read the scroll of Isaiah 61:1-6 and proclaimed the day of the liberty. He said to the people who were listening to Jesus, "God anointed me and sent me to the people who are blinded and oppressed and chained to give them the freedom. The word has reached to you today".

From the day of Pentecost, the people who call on the name of the Lord receive the salvation, liberty from the sin, light from the darkness. I hope we can receive the Holy Spirit as we believe and call on the name of Jesus, and we can also proclaim the good news to this world.
